Haze

There is no way to calm the fears,
For there are some ghosts that just won't die.
Like the wraiths of smoke that dance across the LZ
As the dustoff takes the sky,
The crashing shells,
The jungle smells,
The rattle of the AK's fearsome sound,
And then the lightning fills the sky
And some will live and some will die
With crashing rolling thunder all around.

To those who will not understand
And those who, in their ignorance, criticize,
Don't attempt to judge the person
Unless you've seen the horror through their eyes,
Of days in hell
And friends, who fell,
And vanished youth that nevermore you'll find,
Of dreams that roll on endlessly
And memories that won't set you free,
And waves of rolling thunder images in your mind.

Two soldiers standing near debris of a building.
