A Vietnam Vet's Reaction/Reflection

The ad that this poem is based on appeared on the day before Easter, 2020. Earlier in the day I had received an e mail from my brother telling me that his father-in-law, a decorated Korean War veteran, had just died of the covid-19 virus.

A Vietnam Vet's Reaction/Reflection

An on-line, for sale ad: "Vietnam uniform patches and other artifacts -- $50.00 for all"
A tour of duty in Vietnam was 1 year,
If not cut short by wounds or KIA.
Fifty dollars divided by 365 equals about 14 cents a day,
For a soldier having risked his life in a war zone. Who says life isn't cheap?
