1968 Tet offensive

A young soldier kneels with his rifle.

Landed there January 1968 after Infantry training and being told of our superior fire power to wondering if I was going to make it home after my first month, timing was perfect the Tet offensive had just begun. My company took a beating and our numbers were down so we were in a less aggressive situation until we regained full strength, we were then moved closer to the Saigon area where we were exposed to more of the hit and run, sniper, booby trap, house to house type warfare our mission was to find the enemy who were shooting rockets into Saigon at night, of coarse they blended into the general population during the day, so a lot of search without success but could never put our guard down we took on casualties, a year that influenced the rest of my life.
