Stevie Cunningham shared a special connection with his grandfather. They shared the same birthday, trained at Fort Sill and Fort Campbell, and served in the Americal Division, all several years apart. He enlisted at the recommendation of his uncle and father.
You had to watch things like cigarette smoke. If you didn't want to be found, you didn't want to be giving off any sort of odor.
