The Telling Project Cast Profiles

The Telling Project is a national performing arts non-profit that uses theater to deepen civilian understanding of the military experience. The resulting performances give veterans a platform to tell their stories and give audiences an opportunity to listen.

The following excerpts are cast profiles from a 2017 performance that brought together Vietnam War veterans and family members. This creative process and the full performance were captured as part of the Twin Cities PBS documentary, Minnesota Remembers Vietnam: The Telling Project.

After decades of surgeries and therapy, Ken Plant has become an advocate for sharing military experiences, including experiences of the effects of PTSD.

Kang Vang shares his story of living between two worlds and wanting to make his father, Xainou P. Vang – right-hand man to revered Hmong general Vang Pao – proud.

Ken Sholes speaks about his experience of being a closeted gay man in the military, and about his work after his service to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Serving in Vietnam changed Mary Beth Crowley describes, and the Vietnam Women's Memorial Project helped her connect to fellow nurses and start to heal some of her wounds.

Raymond Wilson talks about how being black impacted his career choice and ultimately sent him down the road of joining the military; and about his life-long love of flying.
