A Minnesota PBS Initiative

Proud But Not Supported

Franklin Star was assigned to a land-clearing battalion with the Army Corps of Engineers, which was ironic because he considered himself an environmentalist. Coming home was especially memorable for Franklin, who was greeted at the concourse by his mom, dad, and a large group of friends.

We're proud that we went; we would never do it again. Nobody should have to do it.
