Very few people knew except maybe my immediate family. It changed my life, no question.

Jim Kirlin recalls the leadership of his captain, Marshall Carter, during a difficult, 6-hour battle. As with nearly all Vietnam veterans, coming home was difficult, but Jim notes that along with the bad there was good. His experience in the war continues to shape him.
