A Minnesota PBS Initiative

Harmon Killebrew Platoon

On June 18th, 1968, at the Met Stadium, Approximately 50 to 60 men were lead in from center field to the infield prior to the game. We ceremoniously took the oath of enlistment for the United States Army.

On 19Jun68, at 6AM, We reported to the Army induction center at the Federal building in Minneapolis. We were formally sworn in at this time. We flew on a chartered airplane to Ft Campbell Kentucky.

The "Platoon" was greeted by an Army band and taken to the Reception Center. Needless to say, the fan fare stopped there.

Our group was assigned to the 7th Bn, 2d Bde, COMPANY B. We completed Basic Training on 23 Aug 68. At this time everyone was assigned to separate Advanced Training at many locations.

49 years later it would be interesting to know the histories of the men of the "Harmon Killebrew Platoon".
